mountain that we had passed behind and can see a few more such as Makalu
and many more. Stay overnight in Dingbochea in full board.
Day 08: Dingbochea to laubecha (4940 m) 5hours.
We will start the day with the climb to Thukla (dDughla) through the
Khumbu Khola valley. The trek along the arid terrace is awarded with
awesome views of mountains on all sides. As we come to the yak herders'
place called Dusa, the valleys begin to narrow and continue through Phulung Karpo of the campsites during the first successful Everest
expeditions in 1953. After crossing the small metal bridge we will reach Dughla from where we start to trek up the steep terminal moraine of
the Khumbu glacier. We can find our way through the boulder-strewn
slope as we ascend Chupki Lhara, an eerie ridge top with a dramatic change in mountain view. At the top, after walking for about 1 hour we will find an
arrow of stones with very nice Tibetan prayer flags around there
surrounding the memorials of a famous person who has died in Everest
expeditions. From 10 times Everest summated Babu Chiring Sherpa to
American mountaineer Scott Fisher memorials can be seen over there who
perished on a mission to climb Everest and it is the best way to rest
(relax) after that thokla hard up. We are in the vicinity of Everest but
the highest mountains of the world still remain hidden. Walking
the side of the world's biggest glacier Khumbu we will not be able to see it but

Khumbu glaciers. We pass through the pyramid signpost. Ahead on the
trail, we see the crest of the north ridge of Everest along with Mt .pumari, maha langur, longterm, Khumbutse, Nuptse, etc. a small ascent would take us
to Thangma Riju from where we perceive 360-degree vista of snowy
mountains. Climbing steeply up to the top through the torrent of Changri
glacier, we catch our first glimpse of kala patthar, a gray-green knoll
beneath Mt. Pumori. As we reach Gorekshap, we will be surrounded by
snow-capped mountains looming all around us including the top of the
world Mount Everest. After a brief lunch and rest, we take the trail to
Everest base camp through the once-past Gorekshap Lake. Continuing
straight ahead, we come through the Indian Army mountaineers' memorials.
As we reach Everest base camp we cannot stop ourselves from appreciating
the Everest climbers who take hazardous routes through the Khumbu
icefall. In the spring we can see mountaineers' tents stand out in bright
colors against all the dull gray surrounding around. Nuptse, Khunbuste, and Pumari are the mountains we can view from base camp. Actually, Everest cannot be seen from the base camp properly, for we need to
wait until the next day morning to up the Kalapatthar hill, or those who are interested to go Kalapatthar on the same day can go with our guide or Sherpa.

the dramatic views from kala patthar witnessing the first light of the
day shining on Mount Everest. However, we need to get prepared for an
early morning, dark and cold temperature (-10 to -14 c) departure beforehand. We can see familiar peaks like Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse Tower
to the east even as begins to reveal themselves emerging between the west
shoulder crest and Nuptse. When climbing the Kalapatther we can pause
to catch our breath at several places from where we can have an outstanding viewpoint to snap pictures of the highest mountain. After
two hours of walking, we will be in the best viewpoint of the world called
kalaPatther where we scramble to climb the rocky outcrop near the
summit marked by claims and prayer flags. As we reach the top, we will
sit on the kalaPatther rocks and our eyes taking in the unbelievable
Himalayan panorama, wandering from one mighty massif to another. As we
can take pictures of how much we can take and also take the inner view with
our minds and eye to last a lifetime. On being back to Gorekshap, we
